What You Will See at Wieliczka Salt Mine tours

During the tour, you will descend into the Wieliczka Salt Mine, exploring a vast underground network of tunnels, chambers, and galleries carved entirely from rock salt, including preserved mining machinery, underground lakes, and original wooden support structures dating back centuries.

You will see the iconic St. Kinga’s Chapel, an underground church carved entirely from salt, complete with salt chandeliers, altarpieces, and detailed relief sculptures. You’ll also pass through the Chamber of Casimir the Great, dramatic underground lakes, and statues and monuments carved directly into the salt walls by generations of miners. Multimedia exhibitions throughout the route tell the story of the miners and the history of the mine.

The tour provides an opportunity to learn about the history of salt mining in Wieliczka, the daily life and working conditions of the miners, the engineering methods used to extract salt for over 700 years, and the legends associated with the mine, with a licensed guide providing historical and cultural context throughout the visit.
